Title

Rhys James

Rhys is a Land Records Surveying Apprentice at Oxfordshire County Council. He went to Burford School and left at the end of Year 11.

Why did you choose to do an Apprenticeship?

I chose to do an Apprenticeship because I wanted to earn money whilst leaning and to get real world experience as well as the theory side of learning. I also wanted more independence than I could get at school.

How did you find out about your Apprenticeship?

I found my Apprenticeship through the government website (www.gov.uk/applyapprenticeship).

What have you gained from your Apprenticeship?

So far, I have gained lots of new skills, since starting I have learnt things like how to use AutoCAD and how to carry out a measured building survey. I have also become more confident in talking to new people.

What do you plan to do next?

After my Apprenticeship I plan to progress onto the level 6 apprenticeship and become a chartered surveyor.

How will your Apprenticeship help you achieve this?

My Apprenticeship will help me achieve this by giving me the experience and qualifications needed to undertake the level 6 Apprenticeship and by giving me my AssocRICS qualification which is the first step in me getting my MRICS.

What advice would you give a young person who might be thinking about an Apprenticeship?

I would say to make sure you research the job you are applying for to make sure it is something you really want to do and make a career out of.

What advice would you give an employer who's thinking about employing an Apprentice?

To make sure you will be able to support the apprentice in their studies, and help them grow within the workplace.

How do you feel about becoming an Apprenticeship Ambassador?

I am excited about becoming an apprentice ambassador because it will be a new challenge for me to talk to groups of people and it will also be a good chance for me to express how good I think
Apprenticeships are.
